New York City: Salomon Arts and Santa Monica, California: Track 16 Gallery (exhibition cards), 2008-2009.
4.25" x 11" each, three cards, printed both sides, signed by artist.
Three exhibition cards for exhibitions of "The Lost Art of Ah POOK IS HERE", artwork and prints from Malcolm Mc Neill's efforts at a collaborative graphic book with William S. Burroughs.
These cards are for the following exhibitions:
- 14 November through 14 December, 2008 at Salomon Arts (New York City)
- 14 November 2008 through 16 January 2009 at Salomon Arts (New York City) [same as previous, with extended dates]
- 4 April through 2 May, 2009 at Track 16 Gallery (Santa Monica, California, US) [the catalog is in the archive as well]
Ah Pook Is Here was a planned early graphic novel of sorts between Burroughs and Mc Neill, which was not fully realized in publication. The text was published by Calder Books without the images in the hope of finding a publisher for the full version. When it became clear that no publisher would take the risk, the project came to an end." [Mc Neill, p. 126]
Later, Fantagraphics Books was willing to publish the book as collaboratively intended, but "[t]he Burroughs estate, however, would not agree to allow any of Bill's text to be included." [Mc Neill, p.127]. Fantagraphics was threatened with an injunction, and they reduced the scope to publish the art without the words.
These cards are all signed by Malcolm Mc Neill and dated with the respective exhibition date. All were received directly from Malcolm Mc Neill with a puzzle he created in parallel with the exhibitions.
