Paperwork: A Brief History of Artists' Scrapbooks, edited by Andrew Roth, Alex Kitnick, and Susan Bell, and published in a folio of folded, unbound leaves by PPP Editions (Germany) in 2013. This was published to coincide with an exhibition with Andrew Roth Gallery. Copyedited by Georgia Cool. Photography by Jeffrey Sturges. Designed by Garrick Gott with the assistance of Yoshie Hozumi. Production by Sue Mendicott, assisted by Jaewon Song and David Vu. Claire Lehmann provided descriptive text. Printed by Ninodruck (Ostifldern, Germany). Only 300 1st printing copies produced [such as the example shown].

This is a book that "explores how contemporary artists have used the scrapbook to forge an intimate artistic identity, in opposition to the bureaucratic, administrative papers that provide official identification," according to the publisher. This reproduces a number of artist scrapbooks at full-scale and full-color, giving a sense of their original presence. The book itself is very large (over 20" x 30" when open).

At pages 26-29, "Scrapbook 3" by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin is reproduced in part.

At pages 30-35, the "Red Scrapbook" by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin is reproduced in part.

At pages 36-41, "Scrapbook A" by William S. Burroughs and Brion Gysin is reproduced in part.

This copy is additionally in a clamshell box [not as issued], created by Bill Roberts of Bottle of Smoke Press. This copy was previously in the care of Charles and Pam Plymell, and was acquired through Jeffrey Weinberg of Water Row Books (Massachusetts, US). Pam Plymell noted that her and Charles hadn't given permission for the publishing of the Claude Pélieu sketchbook [they are the estate holders], and was given this copy by the publisher with apology.
