The Spoken Word: American Writers, a compilation of recordings of American writers released as a three CD set by The British Library in 2008. Compiled by Richard Fairman, with consultation by Steve Cleary and audio mastering by Nigel Bewley. Announcements read by Juliet Stevenson.

Track eight of the second disc is of William S. Burroughs. This track – "William S. Burroughs and the Algebra of Need" is an interview of William S. Burroughs by Gary Goldhill on 9 March 1964. This is an edited broadcast.
