A small archive of items from Harvard Professor of Armenian Studies James R. Russell. This includes:
- A letter from “Morris” to Dr. Russell which notes a discussion about Burroughs
- An unused postcard of Allen Ginsberg as photographed by Burroughs in NYC in 1953
- A postcard of Burroughs by Richard Avedon with a cryptic message on verso [Dr. Russell corresponded with Burroughs about the Voynich Manuscript, and this appears to be in two alphabets]
- A sheet of paper noting Burroughs’ residential rooms at Harvard between 1933 and 1935 along with what looks to be an extension for “Felicity” – possibly Felicity Mason (?) – in an unknown hand
- A yellow sheet of paper with notes on Burroughs' biography
- An index card with notes on both sides about The Place of Dead Roads
- A green Harvard University memo sheet with notes on both sides about The Western Lands
- A paper-clipped set of photocopies of Mary McCarthy's "Burroughs' Naked Lunch", reproduced from her book The Writing on the Wall
In addition, the archive also has photocopied correspondence between Dr. James Russell and William S. Burroughs on the topic of the Voynich Manuscript.
These items were acquired together from Philip Smith, Bookseller (Berkeley, California, US).
