Charles Gatewood's "Primitives" (1992)
San Francisco: R. Mutt Press (book, photobook, signed, numbered), 1992.
12.5" x 9.25" x 0.5", 63 pages, hardcover with dust-jacket.
Charles Gatewood's Primitives: Tribal Body Art and the Left-Hand Path a photobook published by R. Mutt Press (San Francisco, CA.) in 1992.
Eric Shoaf remarks in his William S. Burroughs: A Collector's Guide that Burroughs contributes text to these images, and I don’t see proof of that; the text contains many Burroughs elements (“Rub Out the Word”, “Nothing Is True Everything Is Permitted”), but that is amongst phrases that would be very atypical for Burroughs (“We welcome a rebirth of festivity, blessed with innocence”, “We treasure these playful peaks, for they facilitate ecstatic flow”, “Blessed Be!”).William Burroughs is acknowledged in the credits, but is not credited in this volume for any textual contribution. Thus, I believe that Shoaf II.291 is incorrect, yet I list it here for the Shoaf reference.
This copy is 1098/2000 copies, and is signed by Charles Gatewood.
Shoaf II.291.
