Propagation Hazard (1993)

16.5" x 12" x 1.75" (welded aluminum slipcase), 16.375" x 11.875" x 1.5" (clamshell box), 15.25" x 11.375" x 0.75" (internal folio), 10 sections in cover, with eight signed and numbered lithographs/etchings.

Propagation Hazard, a collaborative work by William S. Burroughs and David Bradshaw, published in 1993 by Graphicstudio, at the University of South Florida. 

“A folio of eight original prints, accompanied by original text. Each print [four by Bradshaw, four by Burroughs] is signed and numbered by the artist. The prints are contained in a cloth-covered clamshell box... The clamshell box is then housed in a welded aluminum treadplate box.” [from the agreement to publish]

The etchings and lithographs were printed by Mark Callen and Julie Maher, assisted by Tim Baker and Xiaowen Chen. The text was letterpress printed by Jill Lerner. The treadplate slipcase was assembled and welded at Graphicstudio by Eric Vontillius, Steven Espenheid, and Brian Eddleman. The clamshell box was constructed by Klaus Röetzcher Bookbinding in San Francisco, California. Curatorial assistance by Robert Hanning and Douglas Gatanis. 

“The edition consists of 60 Arabic Numbered, 20 Roman Numbered, 18 Artist’s Proofs, 3 Archive Proofs and 7 Studio Proofs, for a total of 108 folios” [from colophon]

This is copy #14/60, acquired directly from Graphicstudio (University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida). This came with copies of the agreements for the project and for all eight prints, individually.
