William S. Burroughs' Clause 27 is Proposition 6 is the Whole Tamale, a short informally-published piece by Burroughs from "The Horse Press", of which little is known. This is dated around 1989 by Shoaf, which is speculative given no copyright or publishing date is printed on the item.
The text was written just before the vote on California's Proposition 6 (otherwise known as The Briggs' Initiative), which puts the date of authorship around late-1978. The Briggs Initiative was a deeply homophobic bill that was rejected by California voters on November 7, 1978.
As noted by Burroughs in the introduction: "I guess this is the most directly political piece I've ever written. It was written just before the vote on proposition six. As some of you may know, proposition six was a law put forward by someone named Senator John Briggs. that would make it obligatory to fire any teacher who openly admitted to being homosexual, or who said that homosexuality was a viable way of life."
This is a rather rare publication, infrequently seen. This copy was formerly in the collection of Darin Scope (UK), acquired directly from him.
