Allen Ginsberg's "Photographic Poetics: An Anthology 1988"

New York City: Allen Ginsberg (xeroxed compendium), 1988.
11.125" x 8.625" x 0.25", 84 pages, Velo-bound.

An instance of Allen Ginsberg's Photographic Poetics: An Anthology 1988 which has the appearance of being intended for eventual publication. This includes 61 pages of excerpts from the work of various authors and poets, 21 pages of "critical supplement" and a two-page suggested reading list. It is assumed that this compendium was copied off for Allen Ginsberg's classes at Naropa Institute, and it is not known how many copies were produced in this format, but is certainly rare.

William S. Burroughs' Naked Lunch is included – a copy of four pages form the softcover Grove Press edition are ganged together on page 32, representing the "The Market" section of the book.

This specific copy, which was in the collection of Jacqueline Gens, Ginsberg's longtime archivist and secretary, has a Post-It note handwritten by Allen Ginsberg at the title page: "IX / Xerox + / send / to Burroughs / Allen". It is not known if a copy was received by Burroughs. This copy was acquired from Kevin Sell at The Rare Book Sleuth in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

As an additional point of interest, this volume shared a name with a lecture given by Allen Ginsberg at Harvard University on March 15, 1988, which was accompanied by an exhibition of Allen Ginsberg's photographs at the Fogg Art Museum in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
