Harriet Crowder Photograph of William S. Burroughs, London, 1961
London: Harriet Crowder (photograph, later print direct from negative, initialed and stamped), 1961/2014
12” x 9.5” later printing of Burroughs seated in a chair smoking a cigarette. From Jim Penington:
"Melville Hardiment (standing), Dennis Evans(seated, straight backed), Martin McKean(at the controls of a massive BBC tape machine) and The Man. Melville was married to Harriet and had invited Burroughs to record his thoughts whilst under the influence of some science lab DMT that Dennis Evans had cooked up in the basement at Imperial College. Martin was there as sound recordist. The machine had been borrowed from Anselm Hollo, a Finnish poet who worked as a translator for the World Service. Although Burroughs looks quite animated, Harriet says he seemed to have little to say most of the time and, when asked after the first dose how he felt, drawled that it wasn’t very strong and could he have some more."Initialed and stamped by the artist on verso, with a sticker from Aloes Books (2014).
Acquired from Jim Pennington (Aloes Books) directly.
