The Product Is You (c.1992)

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada: Adbusters (sticker), c.1992.
5.125" x 4", unused sticker.

Iconic and now quite rare sticker produced by Adbusters with a quote from William S. Burroughs:

"The junk merchant doesn't sell his product to the consumer, he sells the consumer to the product. He does not improve and simplify his merchandise. He degrades and simplifies the client."

This copy came from a three-ring bound archive of clippings, copies, and ephemera built by Abel Zug, a close friend of Hakim Bey [Peter Lamborn Wilson] with whom he co-edited Orgies of the Hash-Eaters. This binder, in which the sticker was found, was received from Shiv Marabito.

This sticker is tough to place a date on. I seem to recall seeing them all over the place at one time, but details on it are poorly recorded online (from what I have so far found). I assume that this was published in 1992, contemporary with the Fall, 1992 issue of Adbusters, which clearly uses the same model (if one looks closely at the barcode)

A second, variant sticker without the rounded corners is also in the archive, which I have owned since the early '90s.
