Anxiety and Its Treatment (1941, revised 1947, 1955)
London, England: Skeffington (book, 3rd edition), 1955.
7.5" x 5" x 0.625", hardcover in dust-jacket, scarce.
Anxiety and Its Treatments by Dr. John Yerbury Dent, who treated William S. Burroughs in his London office for Heroin addiction in 1956, employing Apomorphine and a conversational method of treatment.
This book predates that care, and is mostly focused on the relationship between anxiety and alcoholism, although this generally translates to other forms of addiction. The Apomorphine cure, which Burroughs championed, is discussed in a chapter here.
William S. Burroughs is not mentioned in this book, but it offers a great insight into the workings of a doctor that managed to get Burroughs to write, and offered his influence.
This copy has Dr. Dent's name and home-clinic address on the first cover page. I confirmed with the grandson of Dr. Dent – Warwick Sweeney – that the handwriting is not Dent's; it is likely a note given to a prospective patient or a note by a former patient.
