I Had a Dog His Name Was Bill

Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden: Radium 226.05 (broadside, signed and numbered), 1983.
18" x 12.375", edition of 100 [200 noted in print], letterpress.
Dated October 28, 1983 on print, as print IV from Radium 226.05.

One of the rarer Burroughs broadsides, released by Radium 226.05 (art collective, gallery, and publisher) in Gothenburg (Göteborg). This is a chapter from Port of Saints, pages 149-150 in the Blue Wind Press edition.

Letterpress printed on heavy cream stock, 100 copies signed and numbered by William S. Burroughs. The limitation noted on the print is 200 copies, which is incorrect. As noted in conversation with CM von Hauswolff, who ran the gallery with Ulrich Hillebrand:

"WSB did a tour in 1983 and as Ulrich Hillebrand knew him me and Ulrich invited him to Gothenburg for a reading - John Giorno also performed and James Grauerholz came as well. William also spent a few hours in our gallery space signing books - and for this we had the text I Had A Dog His Name Was Bill printed. A special 100 copies edition was signed by W. We never were any good sales persons and I don't think we sold any copies. We gave away a few..."

This particular copy (#93 of 100) was previously in the collection of Carl Abrahamsson (Vimmerby, Sweden), who received it as a gift from Radium 226.05, and I received it from him recently.

A note from Richard Aaron at the Burroughs & Associates group on Facebook states: "Recall clearly reading the passage in the Scrapbook that I had purchased from William and it was an important part of my decision to transcribe the entire Scrapbook.  The materials from that scrapbook were then mixed by William with Wild Boy overflow and resulted in, yes, PORT OF SAINTS."

Not recorded in Shoaf or Schottlaender (v4 or earlier).
