Postcard of the SS Prestolonaslednik Petar (1937)

Susak, Croatia: M. I. Banic (postcard), 1937.

3.625" x 5.5", grayscale postcard, glossy on the recto.

A postcard of the vessel "Prestolonaslednik Petar" (or the "Crown Prince Peter"), the boat that William S. Burroughs and Ilse Herzfeld took from Dubrovnik to Athens on 26 July 1937 to get married. This postcard was issued in the same year.

Burroughs married Ilse Herzfeld to save her from the Nazis.

Thomas Antonic's book The Three Wives of Queer William S. Burroughs documents this trip and the history of Burroughs and Ilse Herzfeld, where I learned about this ship.
