James Grauerholz Bardo Handout (2026)

The handout for the James Grauerholz Bardo, held on 19 February 2026 by the side of the pool at James Grauerholz's home. James was a friend, confidant, business manager, caretaker, and, later, estate owner for William S. Burroughs, as well as a musician, producer, and writer. James Grauerholz died on 1 January 2026; this event aimed to help the spirit of James Grauerholz, who was a Buddhist, with an auspicious rebirth, and was attended by his many friends in Lawrence, Kansas.  Apparently, this event was also attended by an owl who watched and later swooped by the attendees on a cold Winter day.

The cover of this handout includes a drawing of James Grauerholz by artist David Hockney. A painting by William S. Burroughs is represented inside. 

This item was a gift from the current Estate of William S. Burroughs [and James Grauerholz], given during a Summer 2026 visit to Lawrence, Kansas.
