Burroughs-adjacent. Courtier to the Crowd: The Story of Ivy Lee and the Development of Public Relations by Ray Eldon Hiebert, as published in hardcover by Iowa State University Press (Ames, Iowa, US) in 1966. This is a biography of William S. Burroughs' uncle, Ivy Lee, who was known as the founder of modern public relations.
There is little mention of Ivy Lee's family, and certainly no mention of William S. Burroughs; however, there is an image from the early 1900s of a family reunion in which William S. Burroughs' parents, Mortimer and Laura Lee Burroughs, can be seen standing next to Ivy Lee and his wife.
This book is most valuable for its insights into the social sphere of Burroughs' early life and his shared interest with Ivy (despite their differences) in the power of the word.
