Wayne Propst's inscribed copy of "Interzone" (1989)

New York City: Viking (book, primary), 1989.
9.25" x 6.25" x 0.875", 194 pages, hardcover with dust-jacket, ISBN0-670-81347-8.

Interzone by William S. Burroughs, as published in a 1st hardcover edition by Viking (New York City) in 1989. Edited by James Grauerholz. Designed by Amy Hill. Back panel photograph of William S. Burroughs in Tangier, 1957, by Allen Ginsberg.

This copy formerly belonged to Wayne Propst, Lawerence, Kansas artist and close friend of William S. Burroughs. This is inscribed and dated by William S. Burroughs to Wayne at the title page: "for Wayne Propst and / many years of friendship / William S. Burroughs / December 5, 1996".  This copy is not the cleanest copy – including some of Wayne's marginalia and construction drawings in pencil – but is nevertheless a wonderful association copy.

Wayne Propst shows up in the film William S. Burroughs: A Man Within (2010) directed by Yony Leyser, in Words of Advice: William S. Burroughs on the Road (2007) directed by Lars Movin and Steen Møller Rasmussen, and at the end scene of The Junky's Christmas (1994) directed by Nick Donkin and Melanie McDaniel.

This copy also includes one of Burroughs' index cards tucked into the book's covers, signed and dated by Burroughs [most likely] on the same day. Some measurements are noted in pencil on verso (these are assumed to be Wayne Propst's scribblings). Note that by the mid-90's Burroughs' handwriting had become very uneven.
