The Poets' Encyclopedia (1979)
New York City: Unmuzzled Ox Editions (book, anthology), 1979.
8.5" x 5.5" x 0.875", 310 pages, softcover, ISBN 0-934450-03-X.
The Poets' Encyclopedia, edited by Michael Andre and Erika Rothenberg and published by Unmuzzled Ox Editions (New York City) in 1979. This was released in periodical, softcover, and hardcover forms – shown is a review copy of the softcover. This is an encyclopedia of a form where the entries are all written by artists and writers.
Burroughs contributes "Junk", pp. 145-147. There is additionally a "ticker-tape likely" by WSB at the top edge of the entry and some subsequent pages, reminiscent of similar devices in Cut Up and Shut Up, or the Am Here Books Catalogue Five.
At page 268 is an image of Christopher Isherwood, Don Bacardy, James Grauerholz, William S. Burroughs, Victor Bockris, and Richard Elovich [misspelled in the credit]. The photographer is not noted in this photo [possibly Gerard Malanga], and it clearly is outside of "The Bunker", New York City, likely in early 1977 when this interview was done.
In the back of the book are a "Calendar" section and an "Oracle" section. In the "Calendar", February 3rd is noted as "Junk (W.S.B.)" day. In the Oracle, Burroughs appears in the lower right quadrant of the second page.
This copy was acquired from Philip Smith, Bookseller (Berkeley, California, US).
Shoaf II. 151 (for the hardcover edition, softcover not noted).
