Beat: The Latter Days of the Beat Generation – A First-Hand Account by Andy Clausen, as published by Autonomedia (New York City) in 2018.
A memoir of Andy Clausen’s experiences with the Beats, with illustrations by Michael Woyczuk. This mostly orbits Allen Ginsberg as a central connection, but there are some interesting smaller mentions of Burroughs (example: “From Burroughs the dark side, the use of the hyperbolic grotesque elucidating political realities, the futuristic hells described by that gaunt alabaster walking ghost of a Midwestern, avenging preacher delivering his precise invectives, hair-raising yarns, and polite society be damned exposures of human corruption.”) and memories (such as being Burroughs’ chauffeur for a day in Boulder).
This copy is signed by Andy Clausen and contains a short letter from Bobby Yarra (Golda Foundation) to poet Julien Poirier, noting the friendship with Clausen since Naropa in 1985.
This copy was acquired through Philip Smith, Bookseller (Berkeley, CA.)
