"Cursed from Birth: The Short, Unhappy Life of William S. Burroughs, Jr.", Soft Skull Edition, Charles and Pam Plymell's Copy (2006)

Brooklyn, New York: Soft Skull Press (book, signed, association), 2006.
8.375" x 5.5" x 0.75", 210 pages, trade softcover.

Soft Skull Press 1st printing of Cursed from Birth: The Short, Unhappy Life of William S. Burroughs Jr. by William S. Burroughs, Jr. ("Billy"), edited by David Ohle.

This was originally to be printed by Grove Press (NYC) in 2001, but was not released until Soft Skull released it in 2006. This edition is printed on paper which is prone to toning and foxing, sadly.

This specific copy was formerly Charles [and Pam] Plymell's copy, and is signed by the editor David Ohle on a very highly foxed first title page.  Charles Plymell has added and initialed some marginalia in response to:

  • a letter from Bill to Billy about Billy visiting Cherry Valley (March 18, 1974, at page 77)
  • a letter from Bill to Billy from 77 Franklin St. (January 28, 1975, at page 102)
  • in response to a Chögyam Trungpa quote about Billy ("He's not going to die, but he has a lot of anger and resentment to work out, a lot of pain, a lot of suffering to work out yet.", page 153)
This copy was received from Jeffrey Weinberg (Water Row Books).
