The title of this item – which is the dissertation paper by James Grauerholz on the death of William S. Burroughs' wife Joan Vollmer Burroughs – differs from the title on the cover. The finished title is "The Death of Joan Vollmer Burroughs: What Really Happened?".  A well-research and documented history of the events leading up to and after the shooting of Joan Vollmer Burroughs by her husband William S. Burroughs.

This was prepared for the Fifth Congress of the Americas at Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico on October 18, 2001, and has a printing date of January 7, 2002.
